Satahanka XI

The International Sea Scout Camp in Sauvo, Finland
July 28th - August 4th , 2008

The eleventh international Satahanka Sea Scout Camp invites scouts from all over the world to the beautiful Finnish archipelago in Ahtela, Sauvo, near Turku, from July 28th to August 4th 2008. There will be nearly 200 international participants from Norway, Great Britain, Tanzania, Russia, United States, Greece and United Arab Emirates.

Camp site

The camp site is called Ahtela (60.262290° N, 22.793560° E) and it is located in the small town of Sauvo in southwestern Finland. The nearest city Turku lies about 50 kilometres west of the camp site. The distance to the capital city, Helsinki, is about 140 kilometres. Ahtela is a youth centre owned by the city of Turku.

The camp site is situated in the heart of the Finnish woods, but as the camp site is located by the sea, there is also a long, beautiful beach in the area.

Theme: marine professions

The theme of Satahanka XI are the different marine professions that you will get acquainted with and get hands on experiences on both on the shore and onboard. In accordance with the Satahanka traditions the camp programme consists of practicing various nautical skills including navigation and sailing on many different scout vessels. You will also have the chance to experience a unique marine hike in the world-famous archipelago of Southwestern Finland. The general programme will collect different sub-camps and the entire camp together.

Since 1955 Satahanka has been the scouting experience every sea scout should experience at least once in their scouting career. All guides and scouts between the ages 12 and 16 can participate as campers. Older scouts can join the camp staff in different tasks, and they will also be provided with unique scouting experiences.
